The city of Seoul has signed a cooperation agreement with the Culture and Tourism Bureau of Shanghai to enhance cultural and tourism exchange. This marks the first official tourism pact since the cities became sister cities in 2014. The agreement aims to institutionalize the active tourist exchanges between the two countries. Seoul and Shanghai will collaborate in five main areas: cultural tourism industry cooperation, joint tourism marketing, building a network among tourism companies, supporting media exchanges, and sharing policies and information. Plans include launching a joint task force, organizing a 'Korea-China Hospitality Week' this fall, and developing local tourism products. With a significant increase in tourist exchanges, such as short weekend trips by the 20s and 30s age group, both cities aim to lead global tourism trends. In the first quarter of this year, Chinese tourists accounted for the largest share of foreign visitors to Korea.
