Farewell Exhibition for Korean Traditional Paintings Before Their Return to the US

Two traditional Korean paintings, 'Guunmongdo' and 'Baekdongjado', currently held by US museums, are being displayed at the National Palace Museum of Korea in Seoul before being returned to the US. 'Guunmongdo' is based on a Korean novel from the Joseon Dynasty, carrying significant cultural importance as it highlights a classic Korean literary work rather than a Chinese one. These artworks were preserved and restored in Korea and are showcased as part of a cultural heritage preservation project. 'Guunmongdo' was originally given to a missionary in Korea around 1910 and later donated to a museum by her friend's family. 'Baekdongjado' depicts children playing and symbolizes prosperity, with its history tracing back to a purchase by the Denver Art Museum in 1970. The exhibition runs until July 20th.
