South Korean Musical 'The Last Empress' Celebrates 30th Anniversary

The iconic South Korean musical 'The Last Empress' marks its 30th anniversary with a series of performances in Seoul. Originally premiered in 1995 and based on a play by Lee Mun-yeol, the musical chronicles the life of Empress Myeongseong, Queen consort of King Gojong of the Joseon Dynasty. Known for its innovative stage design and historical costumes, 'The Last Empress' was the first Asian production to reach Broadway in 1997. Over the years, it has become a beloved classic in South Korea, setting records such as exceeding one million attendees and 1,000 performances. This year's special cast includes top Korean actors and the musical runs until March 30 at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts (a major cultural venue in Seoul).
