External Curators Showcase Artists from New Perspectives

Several galleries in Korea are hosting exhibitions curated by external curators, offering a fresh perspective on a diverse range of artists. At the Kukje Gallery in Seoul, a exhibition featuring six young painters born between the early 1980s and mid-1990s is being held. They explore traditional painting mediums with a modern twist. The exhibition 'Distant Today', curated by artist and filmmaker Park Chan-kyung, interacts with a 1930s traditional Korean house modified for showing artworks. On display are various media from five artists, including Young Joo Lim, an award recipient at the Frieze Seoul Art Fair 2023. Meanwhile, the Lehmann Maupin Gallery in Hannam-dong presents 'Square', curated by Taekun Um, featuring Korean and American abstract artists whose works involve square motifs. This includes autobiographical works by MacArthur Binion and rhythmic color grids by Stanley Whitney.
