Special Exhibition of Jack James, the War Correspondent Who First Reported the Korean War

A special exhibition showcasing 25 items belonging to Jack James, the American war correspondent who first reported the outbreak of the Korean War, is being held at the National Museum of Korean History in Seoul starting from June 19. Jack James, who worked for United Press (now UPI), sent news of North Korea's invasion of South Korea ahead of even the US embassy's report to Washington. The exhibition includes his field jacket, notebooks, and musical instruments from his time with the South Korean Navy. After retiring due to a war injury, James continued to contribute to Korean cultural heritage. His dedication to preserving Korean culture, even posthumously, is evident in the artifacts his son donated, which include a 17th-century Korean sculpture he saved from destruction.
