From June 25-28 and July 16-19, four one-act plays by Lee Geun-sam will be performed at Sogang University's Mary Hall. Lee Geun-sam (1929-2003) is hailed as a pioneer who broadened the horizons of modern Korean theater, with his debut in 1960 with the one-act play 'Manuscript Paper.' Renowned for his diverse styles and sharp critique of societal issues, his works often diverged from traditional realism, incorporating satire and absurdism, influencing the Korean theater scene significantly. The upcoming event showcases political satire and contemplation of life's values in plays such as 'The King Refused to Die' and 'Lost Property,' with further explorations of family and generational conflicts through 'Manuscript Paper' and 'Fishing Spot War.' The performances gain additional significance from being held at Mary Hall, a venue that originated from Lee Geun-sam's proposal during his tenure at Sogang University.
