Artist Jioh Choi questions whether painting can transcend mere depiction to encompass layers of time and emotion. His solo exhibition, "Beyond the Gaze, Where Time Stays," opens on June 20 at Gallery Marie in Jongno, Seoul. The exhibition proposes artistic moments of 'staying' and 'sensing' within urban life, offering viewers a pause from the rapid flow of everyday life. Through the use of hanji (traditional Korean paper), Choi captures landscapes influenced by both domestic and international locales, including South Korea, the U.S., Canada, and China. His work goes beyond traditional landscape art, merging layers of time and emotion to create sensory maps. Notable works include "Dawn at Bryce Canyon" and "Midnight Fantasia," demonstrating landscapes as emotional reflections and memory projections. The exhibition runs until August 1, with free admission from Tuesday to Saturday, 11 AM to 7 PM. This exhibit offers a tranquil artistic journey for those wishing to pause and reflect on emotions in the midst of a vibrant summer.
