After four years in Korea, the global art fair Frieze from the UK is opening a new exhibition space called 'Frieze House Seoul' this September. Located in Yaksu-dong, it is renovated from a house built in 1988 and features two exhibition rooms, a sculpture-focused indoor space, and a garden for events. The opening coincides with Frieze Seoul at COEX in Gangnam, with plans for year-round exhibitions and programs involving galleries worldwide. Renovation is being handled by Korean architecture studio Samuso Hyoja, with construction managed by Our Labour. A site-specific installation by renowned Japanese architecture group SANAA will be featured in the front yard. Initial concerns about Frieze leaving Korea after their five-year contract have been alleviated, as this new space signifies their commitment to establishing a long-term hub for international art exchange in Seoul.
