A neurologist from the United States cautions parents about the dangers of giving honey to babies under one year old, due to the risk of botulism caused by Clostridium botulinum spores potentially present in honey. While adults can usually handle these spores, infants' digestive systems cannot, potentially leading to infant botulism which can cause paralysis or even death. Symptoms include constipation, weak sucking, and feeble crying. Experts recommend avoiding all honey-containing products for babies under 12 months, including traditional Korean snacks with honey or grain syrup (jocheong).
