In a remarkable performance, pianist Yunchan Lim and conductor Klaus Mäkelä joined forces with the Paris Orchestra for a 4th Piano Concerto by Rachmaninoff at Seoul's Arts Center. The event marked the first South Korea visit in nine years by the Paris Orchestra, drawing global attention thanks to these two groundbreaking young musicians. Lim, celebrated for his 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition win, performed alongside Mäkelä, a prominent figure appointed as music director of the Paris Orchestra at just 25. Their collaboration featured careful, gradual sound building, climaxing explosively and earning a standing ovation. Besides Lim's performance, the orchestra played pieces by Ravel and Mussorgsky, showcasing diverse musical expressions and captivating the audience. More performances are scheduled on June 13, 14, and 15.
