The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture released a survey showing a decline in cinema visits among Seoul citizens, while the attendance for performances and exhibitions has increased. Conducted with over 10,000 residents, the 2024 Seoul Citizens' Cultural Enjoyment Survey reveals a recovery of art event attendance to pre-pandemic levels. The gap between performances/exhibitions (65.2%) and cinema (47.9%) has widened since previous surveys. Increased demand for live arts, driven by greater cultural engagement and content variety, contrasts with diminished cinema attendance due to the rise of online streaming services (OTT). The survey highlights a significant digital content consumption, especially among older age groups, and emphasizes the lower cultural participation rates among the elderly and people with disabilities. The study underscores the need for enhanced cultural support amidst social isolation and loneliness.
