Yongsan-gu district in Seoul, South Korea, introduces new trash bags adorned with characters of former stray dogs, Kkoongi, Beta, and Seongwoo, who have become official mascots. These dogs were adopted through a local vote and have been active in promoting Yongsan-gu via newsletters, YouTube, and KakaoTalk stickers. The new trash bags come in different sizes, represented by each dog—a small dog (Pomeranian), a medium dog (Shetland Sheepdog), and a large dog (Korean Sapsal mix). These bags encourage recycling by providing practical information through speech bubbles and QR codes. The initiative aims to change the image of garbage bags, making them more appealing and encouraging environmentally friendly practices among residents.
