First 'Day of Gugak': A Celebration of Traditional Korean Music

On June 5, the first 'Day of Gugak' was celebrated at Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, marking a significant milestone in the history of traditional Korean music, known as 'Gugak.' The event, which was spearheaded by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In-chon, included a commemorative ceremony and performances by renowned musicians Kim Jun-su and Yu Tae-pyeongyang. Minister Yu expressed deep gratitude to gugak musicians for their dedication to preserving this cultural heritage, underscoring its importance to the broader K-Culture phenomenon. Celebrations will continue with a series of events throughout the month, including special performances and cultural activities across the country. The 'Day of Gugak' was established following the enactment of a new law promoting traditional Korean music. Various events such as the 'Yeominrak Grand Festival' in Gwanghwamun Square and multiple regional activities are planned to engage the public with gugak.
