As interest in quality sleep grows, it's important to be mindful of foods that can disrupt sleep. Dr. Melissa Mitri, a U.S. nutrition expert, highlights foods that hinder sleep: caffeine drinks (including coffee and energy drinks), sugary snacks, alcohol, spicy or greasy foods, and energy bars. Caffeine blocks sleep-inducing neurotransmitters, while sugary foods trigger stress hormones. Alcohol affects REM sleep, and spicy or greasy dishes cause digestive issues that disturb rest. Even energy bars contain ingredients that can keep the mind active. Instead, consuming sleep-friendly foods like kiwi, eggs, and magnesium-rich foods like lettuce and bananas is recommended.
