Korea has introduced the first 'Korean Traditional Music Day' to promote the preservation and appreciation of Gugak, traditional Korean music which has been overshadowed by Western and pop music. The celebration starts on the 5th of this month with a ceremony at Gyeongbokgung Palace's Heungnyemun Square (Gyeongbokgung: a historic royal palace). This day commemorates the Yeo Min Lak (與民樂) - "joy with the people," first recorded in the Annals of King Sejong. Various events will be held nationwide until the 30th, including performances, educational activities, and a special festival at Gwanghwamun Square. The government aims to raise awareness of Gugak's cultural value through these events.
