Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the opening ceremony of the 33rd Young Theater Festival held at Sungkyunkwan University's New Millennium Hall. The festival, started in 1993, will run for five weeks until July 6 at various small theaters in Seoul's Daehangno area, which is known as a major theater district. This year, 47 universities nationwide are participating, presenting a total of 57 plays, along with academic seminars, workshops, and lectures. Mayor Oh emphasized the vital role of theater artists in promoting Korean culture globally and promised to continue supporting cultural performances. The event marks the first time the Seoul Mayor was invited to the festival, which aims to evolve into a global event akin to the Edinburgh Festival in the UK. Young Theater Festival is a central platform for university theater arts in Korea and showcases emerging talent.
