Lee Sae-bom, a cellist from South Korea and a product of the Kumho Young Artist program (a cultural foundation initiative for nurturing musical talents), has won first place in the cello division at the prestigious Washington International Competition held in Washington D.C., USA. This achievement comes with a prize of $10,000. The competition, established in 1948, is open to musicians aged 18-30 who are not affiliated with agencies, focusing alternately on vocal, piano, and string sections each year. Lee Sae-bom, a graduate of Yewon School and an advanced entrant at the Korea National University of Arts, is currently studying under renowned instructors and is set to attend the Aspen Music Festival and School as a full scholarship recipient in June.
