The Korea Institute of Industrial Technology has developed a new Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technology that doubles the speed of titanium layering, enhancing quality as well. This advancement, spearheaded by researchers Geonhee Kim and Hoyeon Lee, is set to revolutionize the production of customized medical, defense, and aerospace precision components. Traditionally taking over five days, thoracic implants can now be produced in less than three days. The increased speed and precision may also reduce surgery wait times for critical patients. Future research aims to apply this technology to other advanced sectors such as automotive and aerospace.
