Innovative MXene Material Set to Revolutionize Electromagnetic Wave Blocking

A new ultra-thin film made of MXene material, which is just a tenth as thick as human hair, has been developed to block high-frequency electromagnetic waves. This technology is expected to be utilized in next-generation communication, autonomous vehicles, defense industries, and space electronics. Professor Kwon Soon-yong from UNIST, along with Seoul National University researchers, synthesized a nitrogen-substituted MXene precursor with high purity, making them the first to achieve this globally. MXene, known for its excellent electrical conductivity and adaptable design, is anticipated to be an impactful shield against electromagnetic interference in high-frequency domains. The successful synthesis process allows for the electromagnetic properties of MXene to be precisely adjusted by varying its nitrogen content. This breakthrough, funded by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea, has been published in the prestigious journal, Advanced Materials.
