Professor Yumin Young, a renowned theater critic and theater historian, has published the book 'History of Korean Performing Arts through People.' It sheds light on the pioneers who nurtured Korean art during times of poverty and oppression, laying the groundwork for the current wave of Korean cultural success, known as Hallyu. The comprehensive work includes insights into 64 great artists and detailed accounts of Korea's early performing arts history, including figures like Jeong Ji-du, called the first theater producer, and Park Seung-pil, regarded as the first art manager. The book explores the resilience of artists who faced poverty and oppression yet prioritized national and cultural advancement above all.
