Despite South Korea's strong cultural influence through K-culture and excellent urban infrastructure, the country's tourism industry faces structural issues, resulting in a tourism deficit of over $10 billion last year. Experts suggest a comprehensive policy change and an overhauled governance model to prioritize tourism policies. A centralized, integrated approach across various ministries is recommended for more efficient execution and improved qualitative metrics such as visitor spending and stay duration. The creation of a Presidential task force or an upgraded ministry to focus on tourism policy is suggested to overcome inter-ministerial policy fragmentation.
