Cellist Han Jae-min (19) and Russian pianist Alexander Malofeev (24), both renowned for winning international music competitions at a young age, will perform together for the first time on the 29th at the Seoul Arts Center. Han Jae-min won the George Enescu Competition at age 15 and the Yun I-sang Competition the following year. Malofeev gained recognition by winning the Tchaikovsky Young Artist Competition at age 13.
Despite their different backgrounds, both musicians share a preference for naturalism in their music. They first met at the classical music festival in Verbier, Switzerland, in 2023 and felt an artistic connection, becoming friends afterward. For their upcoming concert, they selected a program that includes pieces like Prokofiev's Cello Sonata and Debussy's Cello Sonata, highlighting the essence of French and Russian music.
Han Jae-min, currently living in Kronberg, Germany (a hub for classical music), finds the environment conducive to his growth as a musician. He aims to explore other artistic fields besides music but wants to be recognized simply as "a person who makes good music."
