The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, in conjunction with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, is implementing a joint safety inspection of seafood starting May 26th to ensure a safe supply and consumption environment for the summer. Inspections will include testing for Vibrio bacteria and veterinary drugs in seafood like flatfish and rockfish, common sashimi ingredients. Additional guidance will be provided on personal hygiene and storage standards for seafood handlers. Key areas like harbors and coastal fish markets will receive rapid inspections using dedicated vehicles. In cases of non-compliance, prohibitions and disposal measures will be enforced, with results published on the Food Safety Korea website.
