Magic Flute Opera with Amateur Choirs in Gwanghwamun

The Seoul Opera Company is presenting the outdoor opera 'The Magic Flute' in Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, on June 1-2, featuring over 130 performers, including amateur choirs comprising of former airline crew members. This event is part of an initiative to make opera more accessible by casting ordinary citizens alongside professional singers. The performance, which sold out quickly, will have Korean dialogues and German songs. Unlike traditional performances, this version compresses the original work and incorporates amateur choir groups. The initiative started in 2023 and grows in popularity annually, catering to Seoul citizens who may be experiencing opera for the first time.
