In December 2023, South Korea's tourism sector showed resilience despite political and economic challenges that month. Foreign tourist arrivals reached 1.27 million, marking a 22.6% increase compared to the previous year, though falling short of the government's aim of 2 million. The largest number of visitors came from China, followed by Japan, Taiwan, the USA, and Singapore. While the tourism sector is recovering towards pre-pandemic levels, significant growth was noted among tourists from Taiwan, the USA, and Singapore. Meanwhile, outbound travel by South Korean citizens surpassed pre-pandemic figures, with a 12.4% year-on-year increase in December.
