In Tongyeong, South Korea, a unique restaurant named 'Yasojuban' blends culinary artistry with traditional Korean alcohol, makgeolli (a Korean rice wine). Opened by chef Kim Eun-ha and architect Park Jun-woo, Yasojuban offers seasonal local seafood paired with Park's homemade makgeolli. Despite having successful careers in design and architecture, the couple relocated to Tongyeong after facing business challenges due to political tensions in 2017. They now focus on creating transparent flavors by minimizing additions, showcasing the natural taste of premium ingredients and promoting the harmony of food and drink. Yasojuban is known for its 'Kitchen Talk' option, providing an intimate dining experience where guests converse with the chef while watching the cooking process. With a strong philosophy on natural fermentation and sustainable practices, the couple pursues a slow and meaningful culinary journey in Tongyeong using regional produce.
