This year marks the 20th anniversary of the passing of renowned Korean photographer Kim Young-Gap. A special exhibition titled 'Kim Young-Gap, Connections and Encounters' is being held at the Kim Young-Gap Gallery, DuMoAk, in Jeju, celebrating his legacy and influence. Kim, originally from Buyeo, moved to Jeju in the mid-1980s and fell in love with its landscapes, particularly the volcanic cones known as ‘Oreum.’ One of his famous works includes Yongsan Oreum, which he helped gain national recognition. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in the mid-1990s and opened the DuMoAk gallery on Jeju Island before his passing in 2005. Despite challenges, the gallery has become a significant cultural site, with ongoing support and tributes from those inspired by Kim's work. The current exhibition includes contributions from 40 people who had personal connections with Kim, offering various artistic tributes to commemorate his impact on them and the art community.
