The 67th Miryang Arirang Festival, a government-designated cultural tourism event, began on the 22nd in Miryang City, South Korea. Running for four days under the theme "Creating Stories Together: We Are Arirang!", the festival showcases the musical 'Miryang River Odyssey', which highlights the life of local historical figure, monk Samyeongdaesa, who played a significant role during the Imjin War. The performance features notable actors including Song Il-gook and Min Sun-ye from the popular K-pop group Wonder Girls, accompanied by over 120 local actors, set against the backdrop of Yeongnamnu Pavilion and the Miryang River using multimedia techniques. Visitors can explore the 'Arirang Themery' to learn about the history of Arirang, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The festival also includes collaborative performances by Miryang, Jeongseon, and Jindo for Arirang development, as well as international teams from Uzbekistan and Japan presenting high-quality shows. Additional programs such as 'Arirang Wonderland' offer experiences in folk games and culinary booths highlighting local heritage and food. Miryang Mayor Ahn Byung-gu aims for the festival to become a landmark in Korean tourism, actively using Miryang’s cultural assets. Last year, 410,000 people attended the event.
