A play titled 'Maze Designer' will be performed at the site of the former Namyeong-dong Detention Center, infamous for torturing pro-democracy activists in the 1970s and 80s, before it officially opens as the Democracy Movement Memorial. The play intertwines the stories of the architect who designed the center, a student tortured to death in 1987, and a documentary writer visiting in 2020 after its transformation. This site-specific, moving theater allows audiences to follow the cast through the historical locations within the detention center, reflecting on issues of art, violence, human rights, and historical reconciliation.
