Namyeong-dong Detention Center Transforms into Democracy Memorial Museum

The Namyeong-dong Detention Center, known for its brutal interrogations during South Korea's military dictatorship from the 1970s to 1980s, is being transformed into a Democracy Memorial Museum. The facility, now preserved as an educational space, will open to the public in June. The museum includes recreated investigation rooms and displays about major democratic movements such as the April Revolution and the Gwangju Uprising. The initiative aims to reflect on the value of democratization and foster a new era of democracy. The opening coincides with the 38th anniversary of the June Democracy Movement.
