The Seodaemun Independence Park, a site central to Korean modern history from 1896 to 1945, is set to evolve into a historical theme park sanctuary to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korean liberation (광복). The park, featuring landmarks like Independence Gate and Seodaemun Prison History Hall, offers educational experiences highlighting Korea’s struggle for independence and self-governance. The initiative aims to remind Koreans of the dangers of internal division and external influence, emphasizing the need for national unity and historical awareness among citizens. Plans include integrating digital storytelling and educational programs, improving infrastructure, and promoting the site as part of a Seoul historical tourism belt. This endeavor holds educational significance for youth and military personnel as the park also honors soldiers' sacrifices before and during Japanese colonization. The project is supported by cooperative efforts among local and national entities to strengthen the site's status and accessibility.
