Japanese writer Yoko Tawada, recipient of the Goethe Medal from Germany and the Akutagawa Prize from Japan, expressed concern about the reluctance of Japanese youth to discuss politics. She emphasized that democracy thrives through communication of diverse ideas. Tawada, who has published works reflecting on the instability of language and societal issues, gave a lecture in Seoul discussing her writing journey between Japanese and German languages. She argues that using two languages can broaden one's perspective. However, she is critical of AI translation for lacking personal touch. Tawada will be giving multiple lectures in South Korea, discussing her experiences and insights.
