Riccardo Chailly, known as the 'Magician of Tone,' is an acclaimed Italian conductor. Born into a musical family in Milan in 1953, he began gaining recognition in 1973 as an associate conductor at La Scala Theater under the legendary Claudio Abbado. Chailly became a global sensation among classical music enthusiasts with his 1981 Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 album with the Vienna Philharmonic. He held chief conductor positions with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. In 1996, Chailly visited South Korea to meet local fans. Now, he leads the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and serves as the music director of La Scala Opera, succeeding Abbado. Known for his wide-ranging repertoire from Baroque to modern music, Chailly is celebrated for his ability to highlight the unique qualities of each instrument to create colorful performances.
