On May 14th, marking 'Food Safety Day', there is renewed interest in how consumers' criteria for choosing safe food have evolved. Freshness is emphasized as the most critical factor when selecting milk, with domestic Korean milk earning high trust and preference. According to a 2023 survey by the Korea Rural Economic Institute, 33.4% of respondents prioritize 'freshness' in milk purchases over 'taste' (30.8%) and 'price' (19.5%). Korean milk is processed and delivered within 2-3 days thanks to a nationwide cold chain system, with strict quality standards. In contrast, imported sterilized milk, while having a longer shelf life, loses some nutrients and requires longer transport times, raising concerns about freshness and safety. The survey revealed that 86% of respondents find domestic milk superior due to 'freshness' and 'safety'. Korean milk's freshness and quality are crucial for food security and the sustainability of the domestic dairy industry, particularly amidst global supply chain instability. The local milk embodies a trusted choice for a healthy daily life.
