Researchers at GIST have developed technology that allows users to move freely in VR environments inside vehicles while minimizing motion sickness. Traditional vehicle-based VR passively reacted to the car's movement, but the new technology lets users immerse themselves interactively and with more stability. Various VR movement methods were tested with participants, and joystick control was found to be the most effective. Visual cues were also developed to help align real-world movements with VR, thus reducing sensory mismatch. This innovation not only enhances gaming and entertainment but could also revolutionize learning and collaboration while in transit. The study was presented at the CHI 2025 conference.
