Special Exhibition of Jang Uk-jin at New York Korean Cultural Center

The New York Korean Cultural Center is hosting a retrospective exhibition titled 'Jang Uk-jin: Eternal Home' until July 19th, showcasing the art world of Korean modernist painter Jang Uk-jin (1917-1990). Known as one of Korea's 'second generation Western painters' and a pioneering 'first generation modernist', Jang Uk-jin is celebrated for his contributions to Korean contemporary art alongside artists like Kim Whanki and Lee Jung-seop. The exhibition features around 40 major works, including 'Family Figures' (1972) and 'Persimmon Tree' (1987), from his artistic career. It also displays the actual art book 'Golden Ark', which played a crucial role in introducing Jang's work internationally. According to curator Cho Hee-sung, Jang Uk-jin has sensitively represented the depth of Korean thought and emotion at the root of K-Culture, and hopes this exhibition offers a valuable chance to experience his true artistic world in New York.
