Korean Air Completes Asiana Airlines MergerCreatrip Team
10 months ago
Korean Air has finalized its acquisition of Asiana Airlines, after meeting the European Union's antitrust conditions. The merger is yet to be approved by the U.S. Department of Justice but is likely to be accepted without objection. To address potential consumer disadvantages arising from the merger, the South Korean government will conduct semi-annual evaluations of air traffic services. A key consumer concern is the integration of the airlines' mileage systems, with Asiana members particularly interested in conversion rates to Korean Air miles. Current expectations suggest a conversion rate of 1:0.7, with Korean Air miles valued higher. Measures to protect consumer interests are expected in the first half of the year.
