The Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea has announced Jeong Ok-sun (stage name Jeong Ye-jin) as a potential holder of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for Gayageum Byeongchang, the first recognition in 24 years. Gayageum Byeongchang involves singing while playing the gayageum, a traditional Korean string instrument. Jeong, who began her training under the late holder Park Gui-hee in 1969, has been recognized for her significant contributions to education and the preservation of this cultural practice. The announcement also includes the recognition of Ahn Seung-kyu as an honorary holder for his work with the Yecheon Tongmyeong Nongyo, a traditional farming song from Gyeongsangbuk-do. The final decisions will be made after a 30-day review of public opinions and a committee deliberation.
