Seobo Art and Cultural Space in Seoul presents the first retrospective exhibition of the late Korean artist Shin Il-Geun (1947-2001), who passed away without having a single solo exhibition. This show, honoring his 24th anniversary, runs until June 26 and features approximately 50 paintings from the 1970s to the 1990s, including previously unseen works. Shin, an alumnus of Hongik University influenced by painter Park Seo-Bo, explored various artistic expressions like drawing, color fields, landscapes, and portraiture, creating his unique style. The exhibition divides his works into three periods, featuring digital archives of pieces previously in private collections. A music piece by Shin's son, Donghun, composed in remembrance of his father, plays alongside visualized content of the artwork, enriching the viewing experience. Seobo curator Park Jung-won highlights the exhibition's aim to fill gaps in recognition of Shin's individual artistic contributions and to document his unyielding commitment to his craft despite a lack of widespread fame during his lifetime. The Seobo Art and Cultural Space, established in Seoul as a renovated studio of renowned artist Park Seo-Bo, is a hub of diverse cultural and artistic programs supporting creative interactions across different genres.
