The 24th Jinju NONGAE Festival is happening from May 3rd to 6th at Jinjuseong Fortress and Jinju Battle History Park. This festival commemorates Nongae, a patriot who dedicated her life during the Imjin War by throwing herself into the Nam River. Every year, 300 gisaeng (courtesans) used to gather and perform a musical ritual in her honor. After disappearing in the late 1930s, the festival was revived in 1992. The event includes various cultural experiences like traditional games, performances, and historical reenactments, welcoming both locals and tourists to celebrate the spirit of Nongae and the rich history of Jinju.
