The Daljip Burning Ceremony is a traditional Korean event where people burn a structure made of straw to chase away bad luck and bring good fortune. This event usually takes place during the first full moon of the Lunar New Year (known as Jeongwol Daeboreum), which falls on February 12th this year. However, an early ceremony took place in Boseong on Lunar New Year's Eve to coincide with the Lunar New Year festivities.
This year, to honor the Year of the Blue Snake, Boseong county created a snake-shaped straw structure for the burning. The event was attended by around 2,000 participants, including locals and tourists, who gathered to wish for a prosperous New Year. The ceremony featured a series of performances, including a fire percussion show, drone light show, and traditional music. Attendees wrote their wishes on slips of paper and attached them to the structure before it was lit ablaze, hoping for their wishes to come true as the structure burned.
