Busan International Film Festival Transitions to Competitive Format Amid Cinematic Challenges

The 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), one of Asia's top three film festivals, is undergoing significant changes, including a transition to a competitive film festival format. The festival aims to establish a new leadership and future vision for Asian cinema, with new awards such as the 'Busan Awards' for the best Asian film of the year. BIFF plans to expand its film selection to 240 films and introduce new award categories, including Best Director and Best Actor. This year's festival will also feature "Forum BIFF" to discuss the challenges facing Korean and Asian cinema. BIFF is enhancing its focus on audience-friendly selections and broader showcasing of independent films from Korea and Asia.
