German Artist Captivates with ‘Dano Festival’ Through Painting

German artist Sophie von Hellermann is showcasing her first solo exhibition in South Korea at SpaceK Seoul. Her work, titled 'Festival', draws inspiration from Korea's traditional Dano festival, which celebrates abundance and health. Von Hellermann's paintings blend Korean literature references such as 'Chunhyangjeon' with Western mythological themes, breaking cultural boundaries. Her massive mural at the exhibition evokes the energetic cycles of nature, creating a dynamic world where festivals symbolize life's regenerative power. Despite not having visited Korea, von Hellermann successfully encapsulates the spirit of Dano, similar to Europe's May Day celebrations. The exhibition runs until July 6.
