Despite the rising prices of seaweed due to its popularity as a K-food, the raw seaweed used for producing dried seaweed is being discarded in some regions in South Korea. This issue is caused by an overproduction leading to a severe drop in prices at the production sites. With the increase in exports and demand, the prices of dried seaweed have gone up. However, the raw material, water seaweed, is being wasted due to processing limitations and anticipation of further price drops. The increased seaweed production is linked to expanded farming areas and favorable conditions, significantly increasing supply beyond processing capabilities.
