First Performance of 'Gentrification' for the Disempowered

The Freelance Team of Chuncheon Theater Association presented the original performance 'Gentrification' at the 32nd Bomnae Arts Festival in Chuncheon, South Korea. The play relates the concept of gentrification, where urban areas see influxes of outsiders and money, causing original residents to be displaced. Directed by Jang Tae-jun and written by Lee Ik-hoon, the performance aims to address social issues with humor and impact through a public hearing-style interactive format. Lee Ik-hoon noted that in public assemblies, individuals often focus more on showcasing their own information rather than addressing core issues, using the metaphorical expression 'gyeon-wol-mang-ji' (seeing the moon) to emphasize the importance of awareness in tackling the real problem.
