Recently, three individuals in their 60s from Yeosu, South Korea experienced paralysis symptoms after consuming pufferfish. They bought and prepared the fish themselves without having professional expertise. The Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety advises only eating pufferfish prepared by certified professionals, due to the risk of tetrodotoxin poisoning, which can cause severe symptoms and even death. In Korea, pufferfish safety is highly regulated with only certain species allowed for consumption, requiring careful handling and preparation by qualified individuals.
