The South Korean government's hotel discount program successfully increased domestic travel demand, shifting some planned international travelers to explore within the country. The initiative issued nearly 947,000 discount coupons, resulting in 126.95 billion KRW ($93 million USD) in revenue. The program has been praised for boosting local tourism and fulfilling policy goals. Surveys showed that the coupons influenced travel timing, with over half of participants taking unplanned trips and a significant portion converting overseas travel plans into domestic ones. The most popular destinations included Gangwon, Busan, and Jeju. The initiative has been ongoing since 2022, with plans to distribute 1 million coupons this year to encourage travel outside the capital region.
