Darth Grader, a climbing difficulty calculator developed by climbers in Grenoble, France, is gaining attention. This web-based tool allows climbers to input subjective difficulty ratings for climbing routes, including rest sections, and calculates the average difficulty. It supports both the V scale for bouldering and the Yosemite Decimal System for climbing. While currently spreading in France and parts of Europe, its algorithm's universal applicability remains uncertain. The tool was used to attempt the world's first 5.16a problem by adding moves to the existing Excalibur route.
