Jongmyo Shrine, a symbolic site of the Joseon Dynasty's legitimacy and traditional architecture in Korea, has reopened after a major 5-year renovation. The restoration addressed aging structural elements, cracks, and roof issues, with a massive effort involving 70,000 handmade roof tiles to prevent weight imbalance. Jongmyo Shrine is a state shrine that houses the spirit tablets (shinju) of past kings and queens from the Joseon and Korean Empire periods, recognized for its beauty and historical significance as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995. To celebrate the reopening and the 30th anniversary of its UNESCO designation, various events, including nighttime performances, are planned at the site.
