Dubai Chocolate Craze Leads to Global Pistachio Shortage

The global craze for 'Dubai Chocolate', a chocolate bar launched by the UAE-based brand FIX in 2021, is causing a severe pistachio shortage worldwide, leading to price hikes. The chocolate, known for its combination of milk chocolate filled with pistachio cream and kaddayif (a Middle Eastern pastry), gained immense popularity after a TikTok post by influencer Maria Behera in December 2023. Major chocolate manufacturers like Lindt and Nestle are releasing similar products, further increasing the demand. Contributing to the shortage is the poor pistachio harvest in the US due to climate change. Despite increased exports from Iran, the supply fails to meet the global demand. The situation is so severe that rationing measures have been introduced in some places.
